I have made desserts for a lot of weddings, and I will tell you a secret. The wedding cake gets the photos, but the dessert table gets the line.
Cake pops earn their spot at a reception for one simple reason. There are no plates, no forks, and no waiting for someone to cut and serve. Your guests pick one up, and the party keeps moving. The ones who are full take a pop with them for the ride home. Nothing gets wasted and nothing gets left melting on a plate.
How many cake pops do I need for a wedding?
Here is the math I give every couple. If cake pops are your only dessert, plan on 2 pops per guest. If they share the table with a wedding cake or other sweets, 1 to 1.5 pops per guest is plenty. For a 100 person reception with a cake, that means 100 to 150 pops.
One more tip from experience. Round up, not down. Leftover cake pops have never once been a problem.
Which flavors work best for weddings?
Pick 4 to 6 flavors so the table looks abundant but choosing stays easy. My most requested wedding lineup:
- Dark Chocolate Raspberry, because it is dark, romantic, and crowned with red shimmer
- Strawberry Shortcake, dipped in ruby chocolate that photographs beautifully
- Cheesecake, the one every generation at the table agrees on
- Key Lime Pie, a bright note after a rich dinner
The colors matter too. Blush, cream, deep berry, and a touch of shimmer sit naturally next to flowers and candlelight. If your wedding has colors, tell me. We will make the table match.
When should I order?
Wedding orders are almost always 50 pops or more, and orders that size need a 7 day lead time because every single pop is baked and dipped fresh. I recommend ordering two to three weeks out so we can talk flavors and colors without rushing. Orders ship Monday and Tuesday so everything arrives well before a weekend wedding.
A little advice from my kitchen
Do not stress about dessert being perfect. Stress is for the seating chart. Dessert should be the easy part, and that is exactly why I make cake pops the way I do. One pop tastes like a whole slice of pie or cake, everyone gets the flavor they want, and your venue does not charge you a cake cutting fee for a single one of them.
Happy popping, and congratulations!
